Academic Programmes & Curriculum Approval
A membership-based pathway for universities, institutes, and training providers to submit automotive-focused programmes and curricula for structured peer review, committee evaluation, and recognition under IAQC oversight after membership.
What this service covers
Academic Programmes & Curriculum Approval supports member institutions that want an industry-aligned review of programme structures, learning outcomes, assessment methods, and supporting resources for automotive and mobility education. The objective is consistency and transparency in how curricula map to defined competency expectations used across IAF member networks.
IAF is a membership-based federation and does not act as a regulator. Any recognition or approval is available only after membership and is issued following committee review with oversight by the International Automotive Quality Council (IAQC).
Review focus areas
Submissions are evaluated against clear, documented criteria to support comparability across institutions while allowing for local delivery models and specialisms.
Programme scope & learning outcomes
Review of programme aims, level, structure, and learning outcomes, including alignment to automotive engineering, manufacturing, quality, software, safety, and mobility systems where applicable.
Curriculum mapping & evidence pack
Structured mapping of modules to competencies, contact hours, prerequisites, and assessment coverage, supported by a defined evidence set (syllabi, rubrics, sample assessments, and policies).
Assessment integrity & quality controls
Evaluation of assessment design, moderation practices, academic integrity controls, and how outcomes are verified, including continuous improvement actions and review cycles.
Industry relevance & stakeholder input
Consideration of advisory boards, employer engagement, placement/industry projects, and how feedback from industry stakeholders is incorporated into curriculum updates.
Typical process and outputs
After membership is confirmed, the institution submits a curriculum package for peer review. A designated committee evaluates the submission, may request clarifications, and records findings against the agreed criteria. Where appropriate, the committee issues conditions or recommendations for improvement prior to final recognition.
Outputs typically include a documented review summary, a curriculum mapping record, and an IAQC-overseen decision statement (recognition/approval, conditional recognition, or resubmission request), including validity period and review triggers such as major programme changes.
Governance and decision oversight
Curriculum recognition within IAF is managed through member committee review and is subject to International Automotive Quality Council (IAQC) oversight to support consistency, impartiality, and documented decision-making. IAF does not confer regulatory status; recognition reflects a membership-based evaluation against defined criteria and evidence.
