Safety, Consumer & Public Interest Organisations
IAF membership for organisations that represent road-user safety, consumer protection, and public-interest perspectives—supporting structured input into automotive quality and safety discussions through committee review under IAQC oversight.
Purpose of this membership area
Safety, consumer, and public-interest organisations contribute an evidence-based perspective on how vehicles, components, and services affect road users and society. Within IAF, this membership area provides a structured channel for participation in working groups and consultations alongside industry and technical stakeholders.
IAF is a membership-based federation and does not act as a regulator. Any IAF recognition or approval outcomes occur only after membership and are subject to committee review and IAQC (International Automotive Quality Council) oversight.
How safety and public-interest members engage in IAF
Participation is designed to be practical and transparent: members contribute to defined scopes of work, provide documented input, and support review processes that improve consistency in quality and safety practices across the automotive ecosystem.
Structured consultation on safety topics
Contribute to scoped consultations on road-user safety, consumer-facing quality concerns, and risk communication, with clear agendas, timelines, and documented outcomes.
Evidence and position submissions
Submit research, case summaries, and policy positions in a consistent format to support committee deliberations and improve traceability of decisions.
Review participation under IAQC oversight
Participate in review steps where applicable, helping assess whether proposals align with agreed quality principles, transparency expectations, and documented criteria.
Cross-stakeholder working groups
Engage with manufacturers, suppliers, laboratories, and service providers in facilitated working groups to clarify expectations, terminology, and practical implementation considerations.
Typical focus areas for members
Member contributions commonly relate to consumer-facing quality and safety topics such as safety performance communication, complaint and feedback trends, transparency of testing and validation approaches, and the practical impacts of quality management decisions on end users.
Where IAF committees develop guidance or recognition pathways, safety and public-interest members help ensure that inputs are understandable, evidence-supported, and aligned with documented review criteria—without implying regulatory status or legal enforcement.
Governance and decision pathways
Membership enables participation in IAF’s committee processes, where proposals and outputs are reviewed for scope, evidence, and consistency. Any recognition or approval is considered only after membership and proceeds through committee review with IAQC oversight, including documented records of inputs, reviews, and decisions.
