Appointment & Assignment Rules
How IAF appoints and assigns auditors, assessors, and evaluators within the membership program to support consistent, impartial committee work under IAQC oversight.
Purpose and scope
Appointment and assignment rules define how qualified professionals are selected, appointed, and scheduled for specific activities conducted through IAF’s membership services. These rules help ensure that the right competence is matched to the right task, with clear expectations for independence, confidentiality, and documentation.
IAF is a membership-based federation and does not act as a government regulator. Any IAF recognition or approval outcomes occur only after membership and are subject to committee review with oversight by the International Automotive Quality Council (IAQC).
Core rules used for appointments and assignments
The following controls are applied when appointing and assigning auditors, assessors, and evaluators for membership-related reviews, assessments, and committee-supported activities.
Role definition and task fit
Each appointment specifies the role (auditor, assessor, evaluator), expected outputs, boundaries of authority, and the type of activity. Assignments are made only where the individual’s demonstrated competence aligns with the scope and technical context.
Documented appointment and traceability
Appointments and assignments are recorded with identifiers, scope, dates, and any constraints (e.g., language, sector, location, remote/on-site). Records support traceability for committee review and IAQC oversight.
Independence checks before assignment
Prior to confirmation, conflicts of interest are screened and managed. Where risks cannot be adequately mitigated, the assignment is declined or reassigned to protect impartiality and confidence in the work product.
Separation of duties and escalation paths
Assignment planning aims to separate evaluation activities from decision-making where applicable. Issues affecting scope, impartiality, or conduct are escalated through defined channels for committee consideration and IAQC-aligned governance.
How assignments are confirmed and managed
Assignments are confirmed once eligibility and competence evidence is on file, the scope is clearly defined, and independence safeguards are satisfied. Where an assignment requires specific technical depth, language capability, or sector experience, these requirements are documented and used as selection criteria.
During delivery, changes to scope, schedule, or team composition are controlled and recorded. If concerns arise (for example, new conflict information, confidentiality risks, or conduct issues), the assignment may be paused, adjusted, or reassigned, with appropriate documentation for committee review under IAQC oversight.
Governance connection (committee review + IAQC oversight)
Appointment and assignment rules support consistent committee operations by clarifying how work is allocated, how impartiality is protected, and how records are maintained. Any IAF recognition or approval outcomes are considered only after membership and are subject to committee review, with oversight by the International Automotive Quality Council (IAQC).
