Eligibility & Competence Evidence
Requirements and acceptable evidence used to confirm that auditors, assessors, and evaluators meet baseline eligibility and can demonstrate competence for IAF membership activities, subject to committee review and IAQC oversight.
Purpose and scope
This page describes how eligibility and competence are evidenced for professionals applying or maintaining standing as auditors, assessors, and evaluators within IAF’s membership-based framework. It focuses on the types of documentation and records that support a consistent, reviewable decision process.
IAF does not act as a regulator. Any recognition, listing, or assignment eligibility is considered only after membership engagement and is subject to committee review with International Automotive Quality Council (IAQC) oversight.
What evidence is typically reviewed
Evidence should be current, traceable, and relevant to the scope of activities being requested. Committees may request additional information where documentation is incomplete, unclear, or not aligned to the intended role.
Role scope and eligibility confirmation
A clear statement of the requested role (auditor, assessor, evaluator) and scope, supported by identity verification, professional profile, and any prerequisites defined by the relevant program or committee guidance.
Training, qualifications, and certificates
Records of applicable education, formal training, and competency-related certificates (including course outlines where needed) to show relevance, learning outcomes, and completion dates.
Experience and performance evidence
Verifiable logs and summaries of audit/assessment/evaluation activity, sector experience, and responsibilities performed, including references or confirmations where appropriate and permitted.
Ongoing competence and impartiality support
Evidence of continuing professional development, periodic refreshers, and disclosures that help evaluate independence and potential conflicts of interest for the intended assignments.
Evidence quality, traceability, and updates
Submissions should be legible, dated, and attributable to an issuing organization or responsible individual. Where translations are used, the source document should be retained and the translation should be clearly linked to it. Committees may consider the recency of evidence and whether it demonstrates competence for the specific scope requested.
Members are expected to keep records current and to notify IAF of material changes that could affect eligibility or competence (for example, changes in employment, scope of practice, or circumstances that may affect independence). Reviews and any resulting recognition or assignment eligibility remain subject to committee determination and IAQC oversight.
How eligibility evidence connects to governance
Eligibility and competence evidence supports consistent committee decisions, helps manage risk, and enables transparent documentation of outcomes. Within IAF’s membership model, recognition and assignment readiness are evaluated through defined review steps, with IAQC oversight applied to promote impartiality, consistency, and appropriate record control.
