Student Eligibility & Admission
Eligibility and admission criteria for IAF student membership, including required information, review steps, and how student participation is structured as learning-oriented engagement within a membership-based federation.
Who can apply
IAF student membership is intended for individuals currently engaged in formal learning in fields relevant to automotive engineering, quality, safety, software, manufacturing, supply chain, or related disciplines. Applicants may be enrolled in secondary, vocational, undergraduate, or postgraduate programs, or in structured, recognized training pathways where student status can be reasonably evidenced.
Student membership is a participation pathway within a membership-based federation. It supports learning, collaboration, and exposure to committee work; it does not grant regulatory standing and does not imply any legal authority or automatic recognition. Any recognition, where applicable, occurs only after membership and is subject to committee review with IAQC oversight.
Admission criteria and what is reviewed
Admission focuses on confirming student status, alignment with IAF’s learning objectives, and readiness to participate responsibly in collaborative activities. Reviews are proportional to the requested level of participation and the sensitivity of any working materials.
Student status verification
Applicants provide evidence of current enrollment or active training (for example, an enrollment letter, student ID, or equivalent documentation). IAF may request clarifications to confirm the timeframe and program relevance.
Application information and intent
The application captures basic identity and contact details, study area, and a short statement of learning goals (e.g., interest in quality systems, functional safety, cybersecurity, software assurance, or manufacturing quality).
Participation readiness and conduct
Students are expected to follow meeting etiquette, confidentiality rules where applicable, and conflict-of-interest disclosures. Admission may include acknowledgement of the member code of conduct and appropriate use of IAF references.
Alignment to learning pathways
Placement into student learning pathways considers the applicant’s background and objectives, helping match students to suitable forums (e.g., introductory working groups, observer roles, or mentored participation) without overstating outcomes.
Admission steps and typical outcomes
After submission, applications are screened for completeness and eligibility, then routed for membership review. Where needed, IAF may request additional information to confirm student status or clarify the intended participation scope. Decisions are communicated with any participation conditions (e.g., observer-only access, mentoring requirements, or restricted access to specific materials).
Admission results in student membership and access to learning-oriented participation opportunities appropriate to the pathway. It does not constitute certification, endorsement, or regulatory approval. Any recognition that may be referenced publicly is only available after membership and only following committee review under IAQC oversight, with clear limits on how claims may be presented.
How eligibility connects to governance and oversight
Student eligibility and admission are administered within IAF’s membership governance framework to ensure consistency, appropriate access, and responsible participation. Committee review supports fair placement into learning pathways, while IAQC oversight helps ensure that any post-membership recognition is reviewed, documented, and communicated without certification or legal-approval claims.
