IAF Sets the Foundations for the International Automotive Quality Council

The International Automotive Federation (IAF) has initiated the development of the International Automotive Quality Council (IAQC), a high-level governance initiative designed to address complex, cross-disciplinary quality matters across the automotive ecosystem.

As automotive systems become increasingly interconnected, quality-related decisions often extend beyond the scope of individual committees or programmes. IAQC is being developed as a governance-level council to enable coordinated evaluation, authoritative alignment, and long-term consistency on matters that require cross-disciplinary judgment.

The initiative is being shaped within the IAF governance framework and is intended to operate above programme and committee level. Rather than functioning as an operational body, IAQC is designed to support authoritative coordination, escalation, and alignment on matters where ecosystem-wide consistency or precedent is required.

Participation in IAQC is expected to be drawn from across the IAF ecosystem, including representation from technical and governance committees, programme leadership structures, and senior sector experts. This composition is intended to ensure balanced judgment and cross-disciplinary insight as the council’s role develops.

Following its initial development phase, IAQC is expected to transition progressively into a more active governance role. Current planning anticipates that the council will assume more substantive and visible functions during the second and third quarters of 2026, as IAF programmes expand and cross-cutting quality considerations increase in scale.

Through this phased approach, IAQC is being developed as an enabling governance structure—supporting clarity, consistency, and confidence across the automotive quality landscape while preserving operational accountability at programme level.

In Summary
  • IAF has initiated the development of the IAQC initiative.
  • IAQC is being shaped as a governance-level, non-operational council.
  • Participation is expected from committees, programmes, and senior experts.
  • Expanded governance activity is anticipated in Q2–Q3 2026.

Further information on the development of the International Automotive Quality Council, including its operating model, participation framework, and governance outputs, will be communicated as the initiative progresses.
