Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)

EMC approvals verify that vehicles and components do not emit excessive interference and are immune to external disturbances. Programs include radiated/conducted emissions, immunity to RF fields and transients, and specific tests for safety-critical functions and high-voltage systems.

Evidence spans component- and vehicle-level testing: anechoic chamber measurements, transient immunity on power lines, ESD, and HV-specific checks for electrified platforms. Documentation must reflect wiring, grounding, and software versions tied to EMC behavior.

IAF coordinates lab access, worst-case configurations, and documentation—aligning EMC results with safety, ADAS, lighting, and charging interfaces for complete submissions.

Understanding EMC Programs

Compliance requires both emissions control and immunity for real installations. Harness routing, shielding, grounding, and software states influence outcomes and must be controlled during approval and CoP.

Radiated & Conducted Emissions

Anechoic measurements, LISN setups, and limits for device and vehicle-level configurations.

Immunity & Transients

RF field immunity, BCI, ESD, surge, and power-line transients—especially for safety-related functions.

HV Systems & Charging EMC

HV harnesses, inverters, on-board chargers, and charging interfaces with grid/EVSE interactions.

Installation, Modes & Software States

Harness routing, grounding, and software states that define emissions/immunity worst cases.

How IAF Supports EMC Programs

IAF builds EMC plans, books chambers, and compiles traceable results tied to real installations.

Plan & Worst-Case Selection

Define modes, harness layouts, and loads that capture peak emissions and toughest immunity cases.

Anechoic Chambers & Transient Labs

Access to accredited facilities for radiated/conducted, ESD, BCI, surge, and HV charging EMC tests.

Documentation & Traceability

Test plans, chamber logs, results, and software/hardware baselines linked to installation drawings.

Lifecycle & CoP Alignment

Surveillance samples, change control for harness/ECU updates, and periodic re-checks.

De-Risk EMC for Real Installations

Plan worst-cases, book accredited chambers, and submit traceable results with IAF support.
