Lighting & Signaling

Lighting and signaling approvals verify photometric performance, color, intensity, EMC/electrical safety, and installation geometry for headlamps, DRLs, indicators, brake lamps, rear lamps, and reflectors. Evidence must link devices, mounting positions, and aiming provisions to regulatory requirements.

Programs include device-level testing (photometry, colorimetry, environmental stress) and vehicle-level installation (visibility angles, spacing, height, symmetry, tell-tales). LED and matrix systems require thermal management, EMC, software control verification, and fail-safe behavior.

IAF helps OEMs and suppliers plan device/installation evidence, align EMC and software controls, and prepare authority-ready documentation for series production and updates.

Understanding Lighting & Signaling

Compliance requires both device approvals and installation conformity. Photometric classes, color limits, EMC, and mounting geometry must jointly satisfy the applicable rules for each vehicle category.

Photometry & Colorimetry

Beam patterns, intensity distributions, color coordinates, and tell-tale performance.

Installation Geometry

Heights, lateral spacing, visibility angles, symmetry, and alignment/aiming provisions.

EMC & Electrical Safety

Immunity/emissions tests, thermal behavior, protection against overcurrent and shorts.

Software Control & Fail-Safe

Adaptive beams, matrix controls, diagnostics, failure detection, and fallback performance.

How IAF Supports Lighting Programs

IAF synchronizes device and installation evidence, EMC/software checks, and submission packages.

Device & Installation Planning

Select worst cases, plan photometry and geometry evidence, and align categories and tell-tales.

Accredited Labs & EMC Checks

Photometric benches, climatic/thermal cycling, EMC immunity/emissions, and durability tests.

Documentation & Localization

Device certificates, installation drawings, owner’s info, and localized authority templates.

Lifecycle Compliance

Change control for LEDs/optics/software; sampling and surveillance to sustain approvals.

Unify Device & Installation Compliance

Plan photometry, geometry, EMC, and software evidence—submit complete files with IAF.
