Seats & Restraints

Seat and restraint approvals verify occupant protection through structural strength, anchorage integrity, belt performance, head restraints, ISOFIX/i-Size child restraint interfaces, and compatibility with airbags and seat sensors. Programs must reflect real seat variants, tracks, trims, and configurations.

Evidence typically includes seat strength and deflection tests, anchorage pull tests, belt load path and retractor behavior, buckle release forces, head restraint geometry/whiplash evaluations, child seat anchorage and top tether performance, and airbag interaction assessments including sensor calibration and occupant detection.

IAF helps OEMs and suppliers plan worst-case configurations, schedule accredited tests, and compile authority-ready documentation linked to production and Conformity of Production (CoP).

Understanding Seat & Restraint Requirements

Compliance depends on validated strength, geometry, and interaction with the vehicle safety system. Evidence must cover seat families (frames, foams, trims), track positions, belt routing, and CRS (Child Restraint System) interfaces.

Seat Structure & Anchorage

Static/dynamic strength, seatback retention, fore-aft track locking, anchorage pull tests, and deformation limits.

Belts, Buckles & Load Paths

Retractor performance, webbing elongation, pretensioners, buckle forces, and consistent load paths to the body.

Head Restraints & Whiplash

Geometry/adjustability checks and whiplash injury metrics; robust locking and retention of head restraints.

Child Restraints & Interfaces

ISOFIX/i-Size anchorages, top-tether strength, CRS labeling, occupant detection sensors, and airbag interaction.

How IAF Supports Seat & Restraint Programs

IAF selects worst-cases, coordinates accredited testing, and curates dossiers linking parts, variants, and results.

Family Strategy & Worst-Case Selection

Define seat/trim families and select critical geometries and load cases to minimize testing without risk.

Accredited Labs & Fixture Tooling

Seat/anchor test rigs, CRS fixtures, and lab scheduling for structural, belt, and head restraint evaluations.

Documentation & Labeling Sets

Drawings, parts lists, CRS labeling, and localized templates matched to authority expectations.

Lifecycle Compliance & CoP

Sampling, surveillance, and change control for foam, fabric, sensor, or hardware updates.

Elevate Occupant Protection

Select worst-cases, book labs, and submit complete files with IAF guidance and partner networks.
