Mandate and Governance Scope of IAQC
The International Automotive Quality Council (IAQC) functions as the highest-level quality governance council within the International Automotive Federation (IAF). It provides a unified decision and alignment forum for matters that require cross-disciplinary, strategic, or ecosystem-wide quality consideration.
Composition and legitimacy
IAQC is constituted through representation from across the IAF ecosystem. Members are drawn from relevant IAF committees, programme governance structures, and senior subject-matter experts recognised for their experience and standing within the automotive sector.
This composition ensures that IAQC deliberations reflect both technical depth and sector-wide perspective. The council is designed to balance diverse inputs and reach informed governance-level conclusions on complex quality matters that extend beyond the remit of any single committee or programme.
Governance mandate and decision role
IAQC serves as the primary forum for governance-level quality decisions within IAF. Matters that require harmonisation across programmes, resolution of cross-committee issues, or high-level interpretation of quality principles are escalated to the council for consideration.
Strategic quality decisions
IAQC addresses issues that have strategic impact on quality governance, including cross-programme alignment, evaluation philosophy, and integrity frameworks.
Escalation and resolution
When matters exceed the scope or authority of individual committees, IAQC provides a structured escalation path and a consolidated decision environment.
Relationship to committees and programmes
IAQC does not operate in isolation. Committees and programmes retain their defined mandates and operational responsibilities. IAQC’s role is to provide governance-level direction where coordination, consistency, or authoritative interpretation is required.
In this way, IAQC strengthens the overall IAF quality architecture by ensuring that high-impact decisions benefit from collective expertise, sector-wide perspective, and structured governance rather than fragmented or isolated judgement.
