Manufacturers (OEMs) Membership

A structured membership pathway for vehicle manufacturers to participate in IAF technical committees, align supplier quality expectations, and contribute to shared quality and conformity practices under IAQC oversight.

What OEM membership supports

IAF OEM membership is designed for manufacturers that want a consistent, transparent way to collaborate with peers and the supply base on quality management expectations, audit alignment, and evidence-based conformity practices. Participation focuses on practical implementation topics across programs, platforms, and regions.

IAF is membership-based and does not act as a regulator. Any IAF recognition or approval is available only after membership and is subject to committee review and International Automotive Quality Council (IAQC) oversight.

Key elements for OEM participants

OEM members engage through defined committee workstreams and deliverables that support consistent expectations across internal functions and external suppliers.

Committee participation and voting

Join technical committees and working groups to review proposals, comment on guidance, and support consensus decisions within the membership framework.

Shared requirements and guidance

Contribute to harmonized interpretations, supplier-facing expectations, and implementation notes intended to reduce ambiguity across programs and regions.

Recognition pathways (post-membership)

Where applicable, OEMs may request IAF recognition or approval outcomes after joining, following documented criteria, committee review, and IAQC oversight.

Supply chain alignment and escalation routes

Use structured channels to align supplier audit expectations, clarify evidence requirements, and route cross-company issues to the appropriate committee level.

Typical outcomes and deliverables

OEM members typically use IAF participation to support internal alignment (quality, purchasing, engineering, and manufacturing) and to improve consistency in supplier communications. Deliverables may include committee-issued guidance, clarified interpretations, and documented processes for recognition requests where applicable.

Membership does not replace an OEM’s own supplier requirements or contractual controls. IAF outputs are intended to provide a common reference point and a transparent review process for cross-industry topics.

Governance and IAQC oversight

OEM membership activity is governed by IAF committee procedures, including documented agendas, minutes, and decision records. Any recognition or approval outcomes are considered only after membership, reviewed through the relevant committee(s), and overseen by the International Automotive Quality Council (IAQC) to ensure consistency, impartiality, and traceability.
