AutoSafe™ Supporters & Contributions
AutoSafe™ is an independent safety & integrity rating program. At the same time, it requires significant resources for test development, research, data platforms and public information tools. A number of organisations support this work – without influencing individual ratings.
On this page, “supporters” means organisations that contribute to the development, reach and infrastructure of AutoSafe™ – not sponsors that can purchase a better result. All support is governed by strict independence and transparency rules.
Independence Statement
Financial or in-kind support for AutoSafe™ does not grant any organisation the right to:
- Influence individual vehicle ratings or test outcomes.
- Control which vehicles are tested or when.
- Access confidential competitor data.
Support arrangements are ring-fenced from evaluation decisions. AutoSafe™ governance and rating verdicts remain under IAF’s technical structures.
Types of AutoSafe™ Supporters
AutoSafe™ brings together knowledge and resources from multiple sectors. To avoid the commercial tone of “sponsorship”, contributions are grouped into neutral categories that reflect what kind of support is given, not who gets visibility.
Technical & Research Supporters
Universities, research institutes and technical centres contributing data, simulations and joint research on crash, active safety, digital integrity and EV topics.
- Collaborative research projects.
- Access to anonymised real-world data.
- Methodology validation and peer review.
Safety & Mobility Supporters
Foundations, NGOs and road safety organisations that support public awareness, education and outreach around vehicle safety and digital integrity.
- Consumer information campaigns.
- Joint safety awareness projects.
- Training materials and events.
Industry & Fleet Supporters
Automotive and fleet-related organisations that contribute to generic research, data platforms or neutral test infrastructure – without influence on specific ratings.
- Funding of generic safety research.
- Support for shared data & analytics tools.
- Contribution to reference vehicle pools.
Infrastructure & Data Supporters
Organisations that provide technical platforms, test-track time, laboratory access or high-quality datasets used to design, validate and monitor AutoSafe™ methods.
- Data platforms & analysis tools.
- Test-track or lab access arrangements.
- Support for cloud and digital infrastructure.
How Support & Evaluation Stay Separate
AutoSafe™ uses a clear governance model to ensure that contributions never compromise the independence of technical decisions or test outcomes.
- Structural separation: Financial and in-kind support flows are managed separately from technical evaluation teams.
- Transparent categories: Supporters are listed only by role (research, safety, infrastructure, etc.), not by influence.
- No rating rights: Support does not give any access to voting on test plans, results or AutoSafe™ classes.
Being an AutoSafe™ Supporter means helping the program exist and grow, not buying a better score.
Consumer Perspective
From a driver’s point of view, the main question is simple: “If an organisation supports AutoSafe™, does that affect the rating of my car?”
The answer is no. Supporters help fund and enable the infrastructure of independent safety testing and consumer information, but:
- They cannot change test results or methods for individual models.
- They cannot hide poor performance.
- They cannot delay or block negative findings.
